Database of Fashion 1950-1964
A research Database based on the Norman Parkinson images in this Archive.

The research for the Database is an ongoing project as we are still researching the Archive of Vintage prints by Norman Parkinson spanning the era 1950-1963. A visual history, fashion, advertising and portraits. The photographs capture in the most extraordinary way the enormous cultural and social changes that occured over that time.
The last year that debutantes were presented at Court, Duchesses, Writers and Actors. Models in the Fifties were usually debutantes who dressed in gloves and hats. It was unacceptable to be seen dressed informally, as was smoking in public. Followed by the Sixties where models led and mirrored the new youth culture and sexual revolution taking place. In the early 60's Shrimpton caused an uproar when she attended an event in Australia idressed with a skirt above her knees and no hat or gloves "The shimmer of a vanishing world"

We welcome a response from anyone who has or had first hand knowledge of any of the designers and models listed on our research database, and who would like to contribute to the information we are still collating.

This Database is intended purely for Research purposes only.
